The
Advanced Search screen lets you . . .
- Search for terms using several categories, such as Author, Title, and Subject;
- Select the nature of the search, e.g. to search for all or any of your search terms; and
- Filter your search results using one or more categories.

To perform an advanced search,
- Select which field you would like to search. Note that "Any Field" will NOT search fields with numbers.
- Choose the search syntax:
- has all of these words: returns results that contain every word you type in the following text box, regardless of whether the words appear together. Note: If you are searching for a control number, such as ISBN, you MUST use this search option, and you can search for ONLY ONE number. Chamo will not find any results if you try to search for more than one number.
- has this exact phrase: returns results that contain the words you type in the following text box as a phrase.
- has at least one of these words: returns results that contain at least one of the words you type in the following text box.
- has none of these words: returns results that do not contain any of the words you type in the following text box.
- Type your desired search term(s) in the search text box, and choose the category in which you would like to search:

- Any Control Number – This search category allows you to search all control numbers that have specific indexes and custom searches in Chamo (ISBN, ISSN, LCCN, UPC, and system control number).
- Call Number – A case-insensitive search that allows you to enter all or part of the full call number. Note that periods, colons, semicolons, commas, and slash characters are treated as spaces.
- Examples: The indexed call number "M.251 93,94;95/f" matches any of the following queries:
- M
- M.2
- M 251
- M 251 93 94 95 f
- m.251 93/94/95/F
Select one or more filters to narrow your search results.
- To select multiple filters in a list, hold down the CTRL key on your keyboard while you click the filter selections with your mouse.
- To de-select a filter, hold down the CTRL key while you click on the selected filter.
Note that some filters are hierarchical. Selecting the top layer of the hierarchy means that all of the subordinate filters will be included.
You can use wildcards to search for an inexact phrase. Chamo accepts the following wildcards on the
Advanced Search screen:
- * - Use to take the place of any number of characters. For example, a search for Bal* will return results for ball, balance, or Baltimore.
- ? - Use to take the place of a single character. For example, a search for ba?l will return results for ball or bawl, but not barrel.
